While there is no official announcement from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, the current Interstate 495 work schedule suggests the opening of the new southbound bridge is imminent.

The concrete deck has been installed on the new bridge and pavement preparation calls for daytime and overnight lane and ramp closings this week. An earlier construction schedule expected “median restoration” this fall and next spring. The median temporarily carries southbound traffic on and off the new northbound bridge.

There will be double right lane closings on I-495 south, between exits 108, Route 97, and 106, Ward Hill, Sunday, Oct.3, through Thursday, Oct. 7 from 9 p.m.-5 a.m., each night, for pavement milling operations.

Likewise, the exit 108 on-ramp from Route 97 (Broadway) to I-495 south also closes overnights from 10 p.m.-5 a.m., through Thursday, Oct. 7. Meanwhile, the exit 107, River Street, off-ramp from I-495 south to Routes 110/113, will be closed at the same times and traffic will be detoured. Both closings allow the contractor to install light pole foundations and excavate for concrete rumble strips. Affected traffic will be detoured.

The exit 107 on-ramp from Routes 110/113 to I-495 south will also be closed from Sunday, Oct. 3, through Thursday, Oct. 7, from 10 p.m.-5 a.m. for pavement milling. Affected traffic will also be subject to detours.

A single right lane closes on I-495 south, between exits 108 and 107, Wednesday, Oct. 6 and Thursday, Oct. 7, from 9 a.m-2 p.m., each day, to pour concrete rumble strips.
