I-495 Construction Update: Lanes and Ramps Close Overnight This Week for Beam Removal

Previous steel installation at new I-495 Haverhill bridge.

Removal of beams from the old I-495 southbound bridge over the Merrimack River in Haverhill means nighttime lane closures beginning tonight and lasting all week.

Double right lane closures between exits 49 and 48 take place from 10 p.m.-5 a.m. through Saturday, Feb. 6.

Massachusetts Department of Transportation reports there will also be short-term, intermittent rolling roadblocks during the same hours to aid in the removal process. State Police will use the roadblocks to control traffic on I-495 south.

Exit 48’s on-ramp to the highway from the Ward Hill Business Park and exit 49’s on-ramp from Route 110/113, River Street, also closes from 10 each night to 5 the following morning. Traffic in both instances is to be detoured to I-495 north to exit 50

Schedules are weather dependent and subject to change without notice.
