Haverhill’s two free COVID-19 testing sites remain open today and tomorrow as efforts continue to contain the virus and get the city out of the state’s red zone ranking.

Drive-up testing continues at the Locke Street parking lot across from St. James Church and walk-up testing at Somebody Cares food pantry, 358 Washington St., across from Fantini Bakery. Both sites are open 1-6 p.m. with no identification, insurance or an appointment needed.

Mayor James J. Fiorentini said in a social media post Saturday that the city’s overall positivity rate is going down even as he reported 10 new cases. “It looks like we have another family cluster,” the mayor said.

Testing helps alert residents who may have the coronavirus, but without symptoms, so they can avoid spreading the disease.

When Haverhill joined other area cities late last month in the high-alert, “red” category, Fiorentini asked state Health Secretary Marylou Sudders to begin the testing program.
