I-495 Construction Update: End is Near for Southbound Bridge as Traffic Shifts Monday Night

If all goes well, southbound traffic on I-495 in Haverhill shifts Monday night to three westerly lanes of the newly-completed northbound bridge.

Northbound traffic switched to the newly completed right lanes last week, but weather delayed the planned shift of the southbound lanes. Southbound traffic will use the new median crossover to reach the northbound bridge.

To accommodate the traffic shift, there will be temporary overnight lane closures and short duration closures of the southbound exit 50/49 for Routes 97, 110 and 113 on-ramp and exit 48 for Route 125, Ward Hill Connector, off-ramp during overnight operations beginning at 8 p.m., Monday. Following the traffic shift, the existing southbound bridge will be closed and readied for demolition. Construction then follows on a new southbound bridge.

As part of the temporary road alignment, the southbound speed limit will be reduced from 65 to 45 mph through the work zone.
