A 27-year-old Rowley woman was killed in a crash last night on Route 97 in Groveland.

Alyson Spence died when, police say, she struck a parked car just before 11 p.m., on School Street. Police Chief Jeffrey T. Gillen and Fire Chief Robert Valentine said two young children in the back seat of the gray SUV were not injured.

Police and firefighters went to the scene where they found the SUV with heavy front-end damage, facing the wrong direction and in the southbound travel lane. An officer also saw a second SUV with heavy front-end damage, facing the wrong direction and in the northbound lane. An investigation showed that second automobile had been parked on the southbound side of the street.

First responders pried the driver’s door open and began administering aid to the unconscious Spence. She was taken to a local hospital where she later died from her injuries.

An initial investigation by Groveland Police and the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section suggests Spence was driving northbound on Route 97 when she crossed the center line and struck the parked SUV alongside the southbound travel lane.

The crash remains under investigation by Groveland and State Police.
