Last week, the Methuen Police Department honored K-9 Reiko, who passed away last Nov. 8.

His handlers as well as members of the Methuen, Somerville, Lowell and Salem N.H. Police Departments were in attendance to celebrate his career as a Methuen K-9.  Many citizens and members of the Methuen MSPCA at Nevins Farm also came to honor Reiko.

In 2007, Reiko became Officer K-9 Reiko, joining the Methuen Police Department. He first served with Officer Aaron Little from 2007 to August 2009 and then he became the trusted and devoted partner of Officer Christine Nicolosi.

Carol Katinoglou presided over the ceremony, where it was noted K-9 Reiko was involved in successfully apprehending numerous suspects and missing person operations. He showed us the meaning of devotion and loyalty. Always ready to work, even to enjoy the game, he would be ready to take on those that would threaten to cause harm, willing to protect and serve with his last breath.

Officer K-9 Reiko retired in 2015. He enjoyed his retirement soaking up the sun and enjoying his treats, living with the Nicolosi family.
