Broco Oil is expanding along the freight railroad and Haverhill city councilors are being asked tonight to approve local property relief and urge the state to provide tax incentives too.

The company, which relocated to Haverhill from North Reading after purchasing Ronny’s Oil, proposes to rehabilitate a building at 81 Hale St. The firm has received the endorsement of Economic and Planning Director William Pillsbury Jr.

“In addition to the acquisition and rehabilitation of the building, the city will see the benefit of significant investment in the rail facility along Hale Street. Together, this project represents a tremendous long-0term benefit to the city and Hale Street area,” Pillsbury wrote.

With the expansion, Broco Oil said it plans to hire more employees.

Councilors are being asked to authorize Mayor James J. Fiorentini to negotiate a Tax Increment Financing agreement with the company and submit required documents to the state’s Economic Development Incentive Program.

The Haverhill City Council meets both virtually and in person at 7 p.m., at Theodore A. Pelosi, Jr. Council Chambers, 4 Summer St., room 202.
