One lane of I-495 north in Haverhill closes daytimes Monday and Tuesday as bridge construction work shifts to road widening and installation of granite curbing. There are also overnight lane closures for paving.

Progress on the $102 million means the state Department of Transportation will close the right lane on the northbound side, between exits 48 and 49, Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 24 and 25, from 6 a.m.-2 p.m. each day.

There will also be various lane closures to allow for road paving.

Single left lane closures take place on the northbound side, between exit 48 and exit 49, Monday, Aug. 24, through Thursday, Aug. 27, from 8 p.m. each night to 7 a.m. the following mornings.

There will also be single left lane closures on I-495 southbound, between exits 49/50 and exit 48, on Monday, Aug. 24, through Wednesday, Aug. 26, from 8 p.m. each night to 5 a.m. the following morning. Double left lane closures southbound, between exits 49/50 and exit 48, from 9 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 27, to 5 a.m., Friday, Aug. 28.

The project began last year and is expected to be completed next year. A major milestone on the horizon is moving southbound traffic across the median along a temporary road to the part of the nearly completed northbound bridge. When that happens, the southbound bridge will be demolished and a new structure built.
