Road widening in connection with the $102 million I-495 Bridge Replacement project calls for various daytime lane closures this week.

Massachusetts Department of Transportation said lane closures—both north and south—begin Tuesday, Aug. 18, and continue through Thursday, Aug. 20.

Single left lane closures take place on I-495 southbound between exit 49/50 and exit 48 on Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. each day. Single right lane closures take place on the northbound side between exit 48 and exit 49 Wednesday and Thursday, from 6 a.m.-1 p.m. each day.

Signage, police details, and message boards will be in place to guide drivers through the work area.

The project aims to eliminate “constant emergency repair work,” improve roadway safety with full-width breakdown lanes and provide a dedicated exit lane on the northbound bridge for exit 49, near Westgate Center. The federal government is paying 80% of the project cost with the state pay the remaining 20%.
