Police Arrest 22-Year-Old in Haverhill, Charge Him for Shooting that Killed Lawrence Man in May

A 22-year-old man with both Haverhill and Lawrence ties was arrested this morning in Haverhill and charged with a May murder.

Hector Baez, of Lawrence and Haverhill, was arrested in connection with a shooting on May 3 on Newton Street, Lawrence, that killed one man and injured two others, according to Carrie Kimball, spokeswoman for Essex County District Attorney Jonathan W. Blodgett.

Essex State Police Detective Unit, State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section and Lawrence and Haverhill Police located Baez in Haverhill and arrested him without incident this morning.  He is expected to be arraigned in Lawrence District Court Friday.

On Sunday May 3, just after 9 p.m., Lawrence Police received several 911 calls reporting shots fired at 141 Newton St. When first responders arrived on scene, 26-year-old Delvis Paulino-Fernandez was found dead.  Two other men were also shot and were taken to Lawrence General Hospital, where they were treated and released.
