This Sunday would have been the day cyclists hit the road and “Cycle for Shelter” to benefit Emmaus.
Emmaus Development Manager Margot Regan, a guest earlier this week on WHAV’s morning program, says this years’ Cycle for Shelter is now a “virtual event” that will run beyond this weekend. She explains how to sign up.
“You’ll go our event website and you’ll register as a rider and that will give you your personal fundraising page that you can share on social media. You can mail the link out to your friends and family and raise money for Emmaus. You will have until Sept. 30 to ride anywhere, anytime, any distance you want, to raise money for Emmaus,” she says.
Details for Cycle for Shelter are online at EmmausInc.org under the “News and Events” tab. Regan says some people are even doing their miles at home on their exercise bike. This year’s fundraising minimum has been waived, but it’s still hoped that participants will be making a donation.
Emmaus, which serves the homeless, has incurred additional expense taking care of people during the Coronavirus pandemic. Officials estimate that because of canceled fundraising events, increased staffing costs and enhanced cleaning expenses, the organization expects a loss of revenue in the neighborhood of $250,000.
