Conservation Commission Green-Lights Northern Essex Community College Upgrades

Plan of work presented to the Haverhill Conservation Commission.

The Haverhill campus of the Northern Essex Community College will be seeing some upgrades and improvements in the coming months. The Haverhill Conservation Commission approved plans Thursday night for upgrading utility and drainage issues at the school.

Karen Colby, the project executive of Gilbane Building Company, explained the scope of work.

“This project is part of an overall statewide critical infrastructure upgrades project—primarily projects for replacement of failing infrastructure items. So, for Northern Essex Community College in Haverhill, it’s a campuswide upgrade for sewer, drainage and electrical infrastructure plus related sitework,” she explained.

The main thrust of that work will be removing and replacing a sewer pump station and drainage improvements around the Sports and Fitness Center building.

Other work includes repaving parking areas and roadways, adding sidewalks, two raised crosswalks and building a handicap ramp to replace an existing stairway.

The projects are all under the direction of the Massachusetts Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance.
