Haverhill has 13 new police officers.
The recruits were sworn-in Wednesday by Mayor James J. Fiorentini on the same day they graduated from the police academy. The mayor said the city now has 102 officers, which he called “the highest number of officers actually on the street in recent history and perhaps ever.”
“The city has been reaching out to diversify its police force and its workforce in general and these 13 new recruits, which include five minorities and two female officers, are a significant step in that direction,” Fiorentini said. His office noted there are currently 12 female officers on the Haverhill force, of which four are supervisors.
Joining the force are Jhonathan Almonte, Douglas Angus, Angel Aviles, Jamal Babiker, Timothy Campbell, Jared Grazio, Geraldine Jimenez-Rivera, Daniel McDonagh, Parker Rogers, Kaylee Sarfde, David Steed, Daniel Surette and Camden Titus.
Officers took the oath in City Hall auditorium at a ceremony with Fiorentini, Police Chief Alan R. DeNaro, other senior police officers and friends and family. City Clerk Linda L. Koutoulas performed the oath of service.
The patrolmen will be on the street in about three months after they complete the department’s local training program. As WHAV reported in February, all 13 were previously hired and sent to the police academy.
