A 43-year-old Tewksbury woman was killed late last night when she was struck by a car while walking on I-93 north after her own vehicle crashed.
Massachusetts State Police said the accident took place around 10:30 p.m., in the right travel lane between exits 38 and 39. The woman, whose name was not immediately released, was struck by a 2004 Honda CRV operated by a 24-year-old Methuen man. State Police said the driver remained at the scene.
State Police said a preliminary investigation suggests she was on foot after her 2002 Ford Escape crashed into the woodline to the right of the roadway. The accident remains under investigation by Troop A of the Massachusetts State Police, the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section.
