State Plans Roadway, Parking, Sidewalk Upgrades at Northern Essex Community College

The public has opportunities to shape policy this week as various Haverhill boards meet. In the interest of transparency in government, WHAV provides this list of upcoming meetings every week.

The Commonwealth is planning roadway, sidewalk and handicapped accessibility improvements on the Haverhill campus of Northern Essex Community College.

Members of the Haverhill Conservation Commission will hear, among other matters, plans for utility and drainage improvements and paving and accessibility at the campus, 100 Elliott St. Commissioners meet Thursday, July 9, at 7:15 p.m., via Zoom video.

According to papers on file with the city, the college plans to repave existing parking areas and roadways, reset and replace curbs, add sidewalks and two raised crosswalks and replace an existing stairway with a ramp.

Haverhill Environmental Health Technician Robert E. Moore Jr. said another project at the college involves replacing the sewer lift station and addressing drainage around the gymnasium building. Moore said the two projects “should be terrific improvements to the campus.”

The projects are under the direction of the state’s Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance.

Haverhill Board of Assessors meets remotely Tuesday, July 7, from 9-10 a.m., via Zoom. The agenda includes excise tax abatements, status of building inspections and preliminary billing.

Wednesday, July 8

Consentino School Building Committee meets Wednesday, July 8, at 2 p.m., online. Members will review the city’s request for proposals to hire a project manager.

Haverhill Planning Board meets Wednesday, July 8, at 7 p.m., online. The Board considers its recommendation to the City Council on a special permit request from Richard Carter for four, one-bedroom apartments at 417 Washington St.

Thursday, July 9

Haverhill Housing Authority Board of Commissioners meets Thursday, July 9, at 4 p.m., by conference call. The agenda includes review and approval of a declaration of substantial completion of a new elevator.
