A number of local organizations are sharing in $900,000 in grants distributed by the Essex County Community Foundation.

Among those receiving assistance are Community Action and Boys and Girls Club of Greater Haverhill, both of Haverhill, Community Action plans to use the grant to provide financial support, food and rental assistance to underserved and vulnerable populations in Haverhill. The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Haverhill is providing food for youth in summer programs.

Essex County Community Foundation President and CEO Beth Francis said, “The effects of COVID-19 have been felt far and wide in Essex County. Food insecurity persists, mental health services are in greater demand and many can’t afford life’s basic necessities because they are out of work.”

The Foundation this week said it awarded the seventh round of grants from its Essex County COVID-19 Response Fund, made possible by the Massachusetts COVID-19 Relief Fund. The statewide program was initiated in March by First Lady Lauren Baker and the One8 Foundation to support those across the Commonwealth most impacted by COVID-19.

To date, the Foundation has awarded nearly $4.4 million through 207 grants to nonprofits battling COVID-19 and the resulting fallout from the virus.
