Haverhill and Andover educators are among those carrying a message today that “layoffs and cuts now are exactly the wrong move for the good of our students and our communities.”

Haverhill Education Association, Andover Education Association and Massachusetts Teachers Association are stopping their Merrimack Valley Care-A-Van in Haverhill and Andover. It is described as a “rally on wheels” to let state Education Commissioner Jeffrey C. Riley and elected leaders know they oppose any cuts.

The Care-A-Van begins at 2:30 p.m., Haverhill High School, where speakers will include Education Support Professional Maureen Zuber, Haverhill School Committee Vice Chair Richard J. Rosa, a representative from the Haverhill Latino Coalition and Haverhill Education Coalition president Joanna Dix.

In Andover, speakers will include Massachusetts Teachers Association President Merrie Najimy, Greater Lawrence Education Justice Alliance Coordinator and candidate for state representative Dr. Marianela Rivera, a representative from South Elementary School and Andover Education Association President Matthew Bach.
