A 29-year-old Dorchester man, accused of recklessly driving five children through Haverhill, Plaistow, N.H., and other New Hampshire towns, was arrested yesterday afternoon by the Rockingham County Sheriff’s office.
Haverhill Police alerted Plaistow, N.H., after receiving a 911 call late morning that the driver was live streaming the trek and distressed passengers were pleading for help. Haverhill Police at first believed a woman had been thrown from the blue Honda Odyssey. Another report said the woman jumped from the car to seek help.
Alpalus Slyman was arrested after a Rockingham County deputy sheriff pursued the Honda up Route 125 north. Police said, stop sticks were eventually used, blowing out one of the tires. The car left Route 101 at exit 12, struck another vehicle and continued at low speed into North Hampton. Slyman’s Honda was eventually boxed in and he rammed a cruiser before colliding with a tree.
The five children—three females and two males, ages 13, 5, 2, 1-year and eight-month-old—were not injured and medically examined and cleared by the North Hampton Fire Department. They belonged to the suspect and were reunited with their mother at the scene.
Slyman was charged with three counts of felony reckless conduct, conduct after an accident and disobeying an officer. He is scheduled to be arraigned Friday in Rockingham County Superior Court.
