Worcester Woman Dies, Lawrence Woman Receives Injuries in Methuen I-495 Double Rollover Crash

A 31-year-old Worcester woman was killed and a 40-year-old Lawrence woman suffered minor injuries Saturday morning when their vehicles collided and overturned on Interstate 495 in Methuen.

State Police say the unidentified Worcester woman was driving alone in a 2018 Honda HRV in the left travel lane of 495 northbound, just before exit 48 in Haverhill. When she moved across the middle lane to the right travel lane, police say, she struck a 2008 Chevy Aveo in the rear end, causing both vehicles to roll over.

“The Honda came to final rest upside down over the guardrail on the right shoulder of the highway. The Chevy that was traveling northbound in the right lane came to final rest upside down in the median,” State Police said.

The driver of the Honda was not wearing a seat-belt and was thrown from the vehicle. She was Medflighted to Lawrence General Hospital where she was pronounced. The Chevy driver from Lawrence, also unidentified, was treated at Lawrence General Hospital for minor injuries.

State Police say they will release the Worcester woman’s name’ after next-of-kin are notified.

The right and left travel lanes of I-495 northbound were closed approximately two hours. The crash remains under investigation by Troop A of the Massachusetts State Police along with the Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section, and Crime Scene Services Section. Troopers were assisted on scene by Haverhill Fire Department and MassDOT.
