The driver killed last Friday night in a fiery crash off Broadway in Haverhill’s Ayers Village has been identified as 29-year-old Evan Leahy of Windham, N.H.

According to Carrie Kimball, spokeswoman for Essex County District Attorney Jonathan W. Blodgett, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner issued the notice.

Haverhill Police and Fire responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a vehicle on fire in the trees near 1506 Broadway last Friday night around 11. “After responders extinguished the fires, they pronounced the single occupant of the motor vehicle dead at the scene,” Kimball said.

Investigators say Leahy’s 2016 Nissan Rogue was traveling eastbound on Broadway near the Haverhill/Methuen line.He failed to negotiate a left bearing turn and left the roadway, striking several objects before the car came to a rest.

State Police spokesman David Procopio told WHAV the car also hit a utility pole and then a parked car before going down an embankment

Haverhill Police were in charge of the accident investigation and State Police provided crash reconstruction assistance.
