In light of expected budget shortfalls coming in the midst of COVID-19, Pentucket Regional School District said this week it is not renewing the contracts of 20 educators.
Superintendent Justin Bartholomew said he hopes to return as many of the teachers as possible when state and local budgets become clear,
He said the Pentucket Regional district, like others across the state, are facing financial uncertainty, noting the district doesn’t yet know how much the state can provide in Chapter 70 and circuit breaker money. Bartholomew said, “We do know, however, that this crisis has been costly and will have financial ramifications, to which are not immune. We also await the approval of our proposed budget at the local level at town meetings to be held in June.”
The superintendent explained the schools are required by the state to provide notices to teachers by June. 15.
