The coronavirus pandemic is forcing many nonprofit organizations to change the ways they raise money, and this Thursday, the Haverhill and Plaistow YMCA shifts gears this year and moves its Virtual Legacy Gala online.

The Y honors Ernie DiBurro and Al Goldstein as it raises money for summer literacy and enrichment camps for children. Regional YMCA Executive Director Tracy Fuller says all sponsors stayed onboard despite this years’ change in plans.

“They have all said they would support the work the Y is doing right now, and are more than willing to support it even though we’re moving to a virtual event. So, for us, the type of the work we are doing is really resonating and, again, we’re grateful to have such amazing business partners in the Greater Haverhill and Plaistow communities,” she said.

The YMCA is currently offering emergency child care for essential workers in addition to being involved with food distribution programs and offering virtual exercise and activities.

The 2020 Virtual Gala takes place online, Thursday, May 28, at 7 p.m. More information and a link to the live stream may be found at NorthshoreYMCA.org.
