Milestone Steel Delivery Means I-495 North Lane Closures, Rolling Roadblocks All Week

The arrival of steel to complete I-495’s new northbound crossing of the Merrimack River means rolling roadblocks and closures this week.

Last week’s milestone, marked by steel beams stored in the median, leads to overnight lane closures on I-495 north, between exits 49 and 50, from Sunday, May 17, through Thursday, May 21. The closures take place between 7 p.m. and to 6 a.m., each night, according to the state Department of Transportation.

Additionally, rolling roadblocks will be used to deliver beams into the work zone between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. State Police will use the roadblocks to control traffic on I-495 north for short periods of time.

Work on the $102 million bridge replacement project is under the direction of Salisbury-based SPS New England.
