To celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week, Haverhill School Committee member Toni Sapienza-Donais is inviting all Haverhill Public School teachers and staff to enjoy a free ice cream either Friday or Saturday.

Donais says her own experience as an educator has given her a good vantage point to observe staff at work.

“As a former teacher and principal, and now I am a member of the Haverhill School Committee, I certainly know first hand how amazing our Haverhill teachers and staff are. The teachers, the ESPs, I feel, are just simply magical,” she explains.

She believes the reason it is Teacher Appreciation “Week” and not “Day” is because educators have always done more, especially now.

“These are very hard times right now, but teachers are working like never before to educate a generation at risk of falling behind students. Working through broadband inequalities and limited access to computers that really burden our students,” said Donais.

Teachers and staff may visit at Biggart’s Ice Cream, 506 Amesbury Road, Haverhill, either Friday or Saturday, between 2 and 8 p.m. They must simply show their public school identification or paycheck stub to receive an ice cream. Donais said she chose a local, small business who could also use some help during this time.
