Ruth’s House Continues Call of Duty Even as Doors are Temporarily Closed to the Public

Although the Lafayette Square thrift shop, Ruth’s House, isn’t open to the public during the current health crisis, the call of duty is continuing.

This week, that means answering a plea from Casa Nueva Vida, a Lawrence homeless shelter, for clothing for 45 children. Gift bags of new underwear and socks, gently used clothing and shoes as well as books, are being assembled. Ruth’s House, 111 Lafayette Square, will deliver these necessities this week.

The public is urged to continue to make donations of gently used clothing and shoes directly into the Planet Aid bins in the parking lot.

Haverhill’s Board of Health has designated Ruth’s House an essential business. The Thrift Shop remains closed to the public for the time being, but the staff will schedule appointments with clients. Clients are also seen on an individual, socially distanced basis to receive their usual quarterly clothing allotments.
