It’s #GivingTuesdayNow: An Emergency Response to Help Nonprofits, Including WHAV

“Win for Breakfast” host Win Damon trades radio stories with Tom Bergeron, who launched his career in 1972 at WHAV.

You may recall that GivingTuesday took place last December—the nonprofit complement to Black Friday and Cyber Monday. #GivingTuesdayNow, though, is today and intended as a global day of unity as a response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19.

Your favorite charity likely needs extra help today. Various nonprofit organizations, serving people across all walks of life, are asking for your help. Among those is the region’s only public radio station and nonprofit news service, WHAV.

The organizers of #GivingTuesday, which last year helped raise $2 billion in giving, added this second day as an emergency response. Officials explain, “The day is designed to drive an influx of generosity, citizen engagement, business and philanthropy activation, and support for communities and nonprofits around the world.”

Many have found WHAV to be a needed friend and companion during this health crisis. The radio station has also provided the most comprehensive listings of cancellations, postponements and closures; live interviews with newsmakers on the front lines; and special broadcasts, but resources are stretched.

If you are already a member, thank you! If not—and only if you are able—please consider becoming a member or making an extra donation. Click here or send checks to WHAV, 189 Ward Hill Ave., Haverhill, MA 01835.
