I-495 Projects, Including ‘Intelligent’ System, to Close Certain Haverhill Lanes This Week

Two different Interstate 495 construction projects will close certain lanes in both directions next week.

A $3.5 million project to install closed-circuit camera and electronic signs means one lane of Interstate 495 south in Haverhill will close during the day Tuesday and Wednesday.

The state Department of Transportation said Friday it is installing an “Intelligent Transportation System,” consisting of 16 closed circuit television cameras and four variable message signs through the department’s District 4.

The left lane, between exits 48 and 47 in Haverhill, closes between 7 a.m., and 3:30 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday, April 21 and 22. Closing the lane allows the contractor to safely and effectively perform drilling operations.

Meanwhile, the right lane of I-495 northbound, between exits 48 and 49 in Haverhill, closes Tuesday through Thursday, between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m., from Tuesday through Thursday. The latter closure is necessary for continuing pier protection barrier and drainage work associated with construction of two new bridges over the Merrimack River.
