Today’s Obituaries—March 13: DeMaris, Gilford

John W. DeMaris, 74, died March 10, 2020 at his home with his loving family by his side. Born, raised and educated in Haverhill, he was a graduate of Haverhill Trade School, class of 1963. He served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged. For more than 22 years he served his community as a Haverhill Firefighter and also served as an EMT for the City of Haverhill. Calling hours are Sunday, March 15, from 2-5 p.m., at Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St., Haverhill. Funeral services are Monday morning at 11 a.m. Burial follows in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, North Broadway, Haverhill.

Ruth L. (Saulnier) Gilford, 93, died March 10, at Penacook Place surrounded by those she loved. She was the wife of the late Ernest A. Gilford to whom she was married 65 years. She was educated in Danvers and graduated from Essex County Agricultural School in 1946. In 1953 she and her husband moved to Groveland where they raised their six children. She was a cafeteria worker at Pentucket Regional School, and then established her own home cleaning business serving many households in Groveland for25 years. Calling hours are Sunday, March 15. from 4-8 p.m., at Dole, Childs and Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main St., Haverhill. Her funeral service is Monday, March 16, at 10 a.m., at Groveland Congregational Church followed by interment at Riverview Cemetery.
