Today’s Obituaries—March 4: Davis, Dickinson, Helps

Edson C. “Skip” Davis Jr., 80, died March 2, at High Pointe House surrounded by his family. Born in Newburyport n June 18, 1939, he was educated in Haverhill and graduated from Haverhill High School, class of 1958. Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. His service included time aboard the U.S.S. Remey (DD688) before his honorable discharge in 1960. He then began a long and successful career in automotive sales in Haverhill with Smith Chevrolet, Marble Motors and Best Buick. Calling Hours are Friday, March 6, from 4-7 p.m., at Dole, Childs and Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main St., Haverhill.

Ronald F. Dickinson, 91, a longtime resident of Plaistow, N.H., died March 1, at his home. He attended Pollard School and Haverhill High School. A veteran of World War II, he served in the United States Army from 1946 until 1948 as a member of the Army of Occupation and was recipient of the World War Two Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal of Japan. Dickinson worked as a deliveryman for Aris Engineering Company and was the longtime and former co-owner of Minute Man TV in Plaistow, N.H. As a young man, he worked for local wood heel factories. There will be no services. The family will hold a private celebration of his life. Arrangements are under the direction of Brookside Chapel and Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, N.H.

Ann K. (Mears) Helps, 75, a lifelong resident of Haverhill, died March 2, at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Boston with her family by her side. She was a graduate of Haverhill High School, class of 1962. She was employed for more than 40 years at the former Hale Hospital in many capacities and throughout the many departments. Calling hours are Thursday, March 5, from 4-7 p.m., at Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St., Haverhill. Funeral services are private.
