The Merrimack Valley Credit Union has launched a multicultural team in order to engage with predominately Spanish speakers.

The multicultural team of key hires and promotions will utilize its language capabilities to better serve Hispanic and Latino community members, credit union officials said. Twelve-year employee and liaison manager Digna Jhonson will work with branch managers Stephanie Castellanos and Yariel Alvarez and mortgage loan officer Delia Gautreaux to manage operations and address the community’s financial need.

“We’re launching our community building efforts first with Spanish, as many of our neighbors in Lawrence, home to our headquarters, prefer to communicate in that language. We plan to grow our Multicultural Team with other language capabilities in the future to better serve our communities,” said Merrimack Valley Credit Union President and CEO John Howard.

Merrimack Valley Credit Union has grown from its five bilingual employees in 2007 to 30 today and will develop partnerships with local organizations that serve the Latino community, host seminars in Spanish and translate financial materials.
