It was a long road but last night, the Haverhill School Committee finally reached a consensus on a set of goals for School Superintendent Margaret Marotta.

By unanimous vote, the Committee agreed to a set of goals for the current school year.  These focus primarily on academic achievement but also budgeting, improved communication with parents, attendance and discipline issues, diversity and building maintenance.

Mayor James J. Fiorentini acknowledged these objectives should have been done back in September and it may be difficult for the superintendent to achieve them all before the school year ends.

“We should have had these done earlier. That’s our fault, not the superintendent’s and we recognize that some of these goals, we want her to work on them but she cannot complete them between now and June 30,” he said.

After the vote, the mayor thanked the members of the Goal Committee members Gail M. Sullivan and Toni Sapienza Donais for their efforts. (See goals.)

In other action, the Committee also voted unanimously to re-appoint member Scott Wood Jr. to another three-year term on the Whittier Regional Vocational Technical School Committee.
