In many ways, they are the unsung heroes of public education. They are the men and women of Haverhill Public School’s Facilities Department.

At Thursday’s School Committee meeting, Facilities Supervisor Heather Forgione, assigned to all of Haverhill’s public buildings, took the opportunity to tout some of the work that she and her team have performed over the past year.

Forgione, who took over the position two years ago, says it has been challenging but that she is pleased with what they have been able to accomplish within their allotted budget. She pointed to new fire doors, upgraded bathrooms, multiple roof repairs, structural repairs and the ever-present battles with potholes in the parking lots as examples.

She was also quick to praise her team, many of whom were at that meeting.

“These ladies and gentlemen put a lot of work in, day in and day out and they are always willing to do it with a smile. They come in on overtime. They’ll put in a little bit of extra effort here and there and they really make it a pleasure to work here,” Forgione said.

Forgione also gave high praise to the building inspectors and fire inspectors as well as the Department of Public Works and the Recreation Department, all of who, she says, have been extremely helpful to her team.
