The left lane of the Ward Hill Connector bridge over I-495 is closing for repairs for eight months, beginning Friday.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation reports the closure is necessary to repair the deteriorated concrete substructure of the bridge. Repair plans are being developed and work is anticipated to begin in the summer.

A steel barrier system will be installed to close the left travel lane to keep traffic away from the weakened bridge.
