A plan to construct a 27-unit apartment building on a long-neglected vacant lot on Essex Street was met with praise and thanks by the Haverhill City Council last night.
Developers Steve and Caprice Pascoe plan to construct the building at 235 Essex St. next to the O’Reilly Auto Parts Store. The three-story structure, which has already been given the okay by the city’s Planning Board, would overlook the Little River.
Matt Juros, the architect of the project, says the units themselves will be small but will follow what he called compact living guidelines which set aside common space for the residents to use.
“We have set aside approximately 40 square feet, per unit, of common space and these common spaces are living space, working spaces—a place where you can cook a communal meal and have a dining room,” Juros said.
The building will have 66 parking spaces for residents as well as patrons of the auto parts store. Councilors did have a number of cosmetic suggestions for the building but overall were expressed pleasure with the plan.
