Haverhill Mourns Loss of Firefighter Lt. Jeffrey R. King, 32; Calling Hours Sunday, Funeral Monday

Haverhill is mourning the loss of Haverhill Firefighter Lt. Jeffrey R. King, who passed away unexpectedly Wednesday at the age of 32.

He died on his eighth anniversary as a Haverhill firefighter.

In a social media post, Haverhill Fire Department Local 1011 called King “an asset to the Haverhill Fire Department and to Local 1011 throughout his service here, as we are certain that he has been everywhere that he has served.”

Visiting Hours are Sunday, Jan. 26, from 2-6 p.m., at Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Route 62), Wilmington. His funeral is Monday, Jan. 27, 9 a.m., from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington, at 10. Interment will be private.

In a statement, firefighters Local 1011 noted King was an airman in the U.S. Air Force, and then a firefighter and paramedic with Trinity EMS and the Amesbury Fire Department. He became a Haverhill firefighter Jan. 22, 2012 and rose to the rank of lieutenant June 4, 2017. “Lt. King served on multiple committees, contributed to policy meetings that have helped to move our department forward,” the social media statement said.

Haverhill Mayor James J. Fiorentini said Thursday, “The city of Haverhill extends its deepest sympathies to the family, friends and firefighter brothers of Haverhill firefighter Jeffrey King. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this trying time.”

King was formerly a longtime resident of Billerica. He was the son of Thomas and Joanne King of Reading and John and Joanne Spinale of Billerica; brother of Thomas King and his wife Kristi of Manchester, N.H., Caitlin Piskadlo and her husband Ryan of Wakefield, Matthew and Kimberly Spinale of Billerica, and Caroline and Kevin King of Reading; and grandson of Peter Ardagna. He was predeceased by his maternal grandmother, Anne (O’Meara) Ardagna, and paternal grandparents, Robert and Marie (Cancellieri) Darnell. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and nephews.
