It’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day and a number of events are taking place in the civil rights leader’s memory.
A free hot breakfast and lunch, children’s activities, raffles, giveaways and a community resource fair are among the offerings during “MLK Day: Continuing the Legacy of Dr. King,” taking place at Trinity Episcopal Church, 26 White St., Haverhill, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is open to single adults and families with children. The first 150 households registered will receive a “Healthy Living” kit filled with useful items such as first-aid kits, deodorant, water bottles and personal care items.
Emmaus’ main goals are to provide nutritious food and educational resources to local homeless and low-income households on a day when most other community organizations are closed. Breakfast takes place from 10-11 a.m., and lunch from noon-1:30 p.m.
Atkinson Congregational Church is hosting the annual Rockingham Area Interfaith Clergy Service in honor of Rev. King, from 7-8 p.m., tonight at the church, 101 Main St., Atkinson, N.H.
Atkinson Congregational Church Pastor Jim Thomas says, “Dr. King denounced the evils of racism and poverty while calling for a revolution of values rooted in nonviolence.” The service explores King’s message from December 1964, titled, “The Quest for Peace and Justice.”
