A free hot breakfast and lunch, children’s activities, raffles, giveaways and a community resource fair are among the offerings Monday when Emmaus commemorates Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

“MLK Day: Continuing the Legacy of Dr. King” takes place at Trinity Episcopal Church, 26 White St., Haverhill, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is open to single adults and families with children. The first 150 households registered will receive a “Healthy Living” kit filled with useful items such as first-aid kits, deodorant, water bottles and personal care items.

Emmaus’ main goals are to provide nutritious food and educational resources to local homeless and low-income households on a day when most other community organizations are closed. Breakfast takes place from 10-11 a.m., and lunch from noon-1:30 p.m.

Emmaus is also seeking individual or group volunteers to help Sunday, Jan. 19 with event set-up at 1:30 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, and Monday, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., during three-to-four-hour shifts. Volunteer online by clicking here, or by emailing Volunteer Manager Denise Arnold at [email protected] or by calling 978-377-0639.

Supported by the Massachusetts Service Alliance, AmeriCorps, the Corporation for National and Community Service, and sponsored by Trinity Episcopal Church, Fred C. Church Insurance and Northern Essex Community College, this is the seventh consecutive year Emmaus has hosted a day of service on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

A variety of local health and resource providers will be on-hand to meet with attendees, including but not limited to VNA Care Network, WIC, Dinah’s House, Marigold Montessori School, Haverhill YMCA, Polished Dental Care, Anna Jaques Hospital and the Haverhill City Clerk’s office.
