Today’s Obituaries—Jan. 16: Albanese, Francis, Goller Knutson

John L. Albanese Jr., 70, of Haverhill, and formerly of Georgetown and Punta Gorda, Fla., died Sunday, Jan. 12, at Holy Family Hospital, Haverhill. During the Vietnam War he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged as a lance corporal. He earned a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal with three clusters, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm and Gold Frame, and a Rifle Marksman Badge. After being discharged he attended Ms. Farmers School of Cookery, Boston, and the American Culinary Institute, N.Y. He was employed for several years as a head chef in various local hospitals, nursing homes and assisted living facilities throughout New England. His celebration of life is Sunday afternoon, Jan. 26, from noon-3 p.m., at the American Legion, Post #34, 176 Main St., Plaistow, N.H. Interment is private and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by the H.L. Farmer and Sons Funeral Homes, Haverhill and Bradford.

Joan M. Francis, 87, of Haverhill, died Jan. 14, at Hannah Duston Healthcare Center, Haverhill. She attended St James High School, Lowell State College and Salem State University. After several years teaching in the Middletown, R.I., public school system, she then spent the majority of her career teaching in the Haverhill public school system. Calling hours are Friday, Jan. 17, from 4-7 p.m., at H.L. Farmer and Sons Bradford Funeral Home, 210 S. Main St. Her funeral is Saturday, Jan. 18, beginning at 10 a.m., at the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 11 at Sacred Hearts Church, Bradford. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery, Bradford.

Mildred “Millie” (Ebersbach) Goller Knutson, 102, formerly of Lakeland, Fla., and New Durham, N.H., died Tuesday, Jan. 14, in Haverhill. A graduate of Lawrence High School class of 1934, she also attended the former McIntosh Business School. She resided in Portsmouth, N.H., for several years and was employed at the New Hampshire National Bank. After her retirement, she wintered in Lakeland, Fla., and spent summers at Merrymeeting Lake in New Durham, N.H. for more than 45 years. Her survivors include her two daughters Judith A. and her husband Norman L. Hanson of Amherst, N.H., and Brenda J. and her husband Duncan C. “Deke” Farmer of Bradford; five grandchildren Shawn Hanson, Shelley White, Kelly Quevillon, Brian Farmer and Jamie Sweeney, great grandchildren Jake, Audrey, Alec, Marina, Julia, Caysie, Cameron, Joshua, Sophia, Lucas, Grace and Mackenzie. She was also the sister of the late Cynthia M. Stone. Her funeral service is Friday, Jan. 17, at 11 a.m., at the H.L. Farmer and Sons Bradford Funeral Home, 210 S. Main St., Bradford. Visitation precedes the service from 10-10:45 at the funeral home. Interment follows in the Bellevue Cemetery, Lawrence.
