Murfreesboro, Tenn.—Steven D. Merrow, former resident of Woburn and Methuen and Salem, N.H., passed away suddenly Sunday December 8, after a period of declining health. Steve was born in Winchester, to parents Donald and Kathleen Merrow.

Steve grew up in Woburn surrounded by loving grandparents, aunts, uncles, and many cousins. His parents moved to Salem, NH when Steve was a teenager. Not long after, Steve began his career years, first at Grossmans Building Supply, then as a supervisor at Channel Building Supply in Somerville. It was at Channel that Steve suffered a debilitating and career ending brain aneurism.

Anyone that knew Steve knew his love of fishing and his favorite “happy place,” Hampton Beach. They also knew how he had loved his Boston Red Sox since way back when Grampy Kelloway as well as his Dad, taught him all they knew just by listening to games on the radio.

On the outside, especially the last few years, Steve may have appeared as a gruff, unemployed drifter. To those of us that knew him his short fifty-nine years, we would object and tell you what a kind heart this big teddy bear of a man had. We would tell you how he loved to tease his kids and nieces and nephews and reward you with a belly laugh when all was said and done. You would hear from us how he called us all on every holiday. We would tell you how kind, how incredibly smart, how funny, this man was.

Steve was one of the most intelligent souls one could encounter, but again, one would have to look past the presentation.

Steve sadly leaves behind his mom, Kathy Merrow, (he joins his dad, who we also lost much too young) his 4 daughters, Andrea, Dawn, and Becky Merrow, Danielle Athanas, her husband Steve, as well as his son, Jimmy Cochrane and his wife Alicia. Also, in mourning are Steve’s sister Linda DeCola and her fiancée John Sheehan and sister Diane Kobrenski and husband Keith, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Steve also leaves five grandchildren, Kaitlyn, William, Evangeline, Elijah, Isaiah, and Aaliyah.

There will be a funeral mass held at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Methuen, MA on Saturday, January 18th at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Steve’s name to a charity near and dear to all of the Merrow family hearts, The Brain Aneurysm Research Foundation 269 Hanover Street Hanover, MA 02339. God Bless. xoxoxo Go Sox!
