Today’s Obituaries—Jan. 10: Cotton, DeRoche

Marjorie Cotton, 97, of Haverhill, died peacefully Jan. 6, at High Pointe House in Haverhill. She was educated in Haverhill and graduated from Haverhill High School, class of 1940. She also attended MacIntosh Business School. She worked for Imperial Cleaners for 25 years before joining the C.F. Jameson Company, where she was a bookkeeper for 22 years. Calling hours are Saturday, Jan. 11, 10 a.m., to be followed by the funeral at 11, at Dole, Childs and Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main St., Haverhill, followed by interment at Elmwood Cemetery.

Mary E. (Nadeau) DeRoche, 98, of Haverhill, died peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, Jan. 8. She attended Saint James Grammar School and graduated from Saint James High School with the class of 1939. DeRoche was a co-founder of the ARC of Northern Essex County, presently known as ARC of Greater Haverhill-Newburyport, and served for many years as executive secretary, also working as the business manager of Haverhill-Newburyport Human Service. She was also a longtime volunteer for the Early Education Center of Saint Joseph School and served as the office manager until the age of 95. In 2012 she was the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the ARC at their 50th Anniversary Celebration and was also named Woman of the Year by the YMCA Tribute to Women Program in 2013. DeRoche’s Life Celebration is Sunday, Jan. 12, from 2-5 p.m. at Brookside Chapel and Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, N.H. Her funeral begins on Monday morning, Jan. 13, at 9:45, from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in All Saints Church, 120 Bellevue Ave., Haverhill. Burial follows in Saint Joseph Cemetery.
