Haverhill City Councilors tonight will hear an appeal from residents to provide more for Haverhill firefighters.

Stephen Costa, founder of a new group, “Citizens for Haverhill Fire,” plans to discuss the city’s capital improvement plan for the Fire Department and firefighters’ increased risk for certain kinds of cancers.

In a social media post, Costa asked that residents turn out in support of firefighters. He said he plans additional information sessions with city councilors. Future talks may include staffing levels and aging equipment.

Councilor Timothy J. Jordan placed Costa’s item on the agenda.
