Tuesday morning’s commute for those driving along I-495 north may find more congestion than usual as the right lane is expected to be closed to repair railings
According to the state Department of Transportation, the repairs affect the northbound lanes in Haverhill between exits 48 and 49 between 6:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.
The state says there will be warning signs to notify travelers about the planned closure and will provide updates.
Traffic is now being carried by half of a new northbound bridge built by SPS New England. Demolition of the old bridge will give way to completion of the bridge in time for southbound lanes to cross over to it temporarily beginning next summer. While a single bridge carries both north and southbound traffic, the existing southbound bridge will be demolished and replaced, according to the state. The project is scheduled to be completed in 2022.
