Residents in need may have help paying for their heat this winter, even if they are renters.

Community Action’s Low-income Home Energy Assistance Program, also known as Fuel Assistance, helps income-eligible households pay a portion of heating bills or 30% of rent if heat is included. Households may also be eligible for discounts on National Grid gas and electric bills. The program runs until April 30.

The agency also provides heating system repair and replacement services to eligible low-income homeowners through its Heating Emergency Assistance Retrofit Task Weatherization Assistance Program, which operates year-round. The program serves as an emergency intervention service to provide assistance to low-income homeowners having problems with operations of primary heating systems.

Residents may view income guidelines at communityactioninc.org or call 978-374-7660 to apply.

Haverhill-based Community Action serves Amesbury, Boxford, Georgetown, Groveland, Haverhill, Merrimac, Newbury, Newburyport, Rowley, Salisbury, and West Newbury. Some programs also serve Beverly, Essex, Gloucester, Hamilton, Ipswich, Lawrence, Manchester, Rockport, Topsfield and Wenham.
