Update II

Correction: Contrary to an earlier report, Superintendent Margaret Marotta told WHAV the incident was between a student and non-student.

An unidentified person was treated for stab wounds tonight outside of a basketball game at Haverhill High School and received what were described as “non-life-threatening injuries.”

Haverhill Police confirm the victim was treated at the scene by first responders and then taken by ambulance to a hospital for further treatment. Police said a Haverhill juvenile was arrested and is being booked at the Haverhill Police Station on a charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon—a knife. Officers responded about 7:15 p.m. after receiving a call about “a man who had been stabbed outside of the gym.”

Haverhill School Superintendent Margaret Marotta confirmed what she called the “act of violence.”

She said, “The injured party was alert and mobile and went to the hospital via ambulance. The suspect fled and was apprehended by police off campus. There is a heavy police presence at the school to assure a safe and orderly dismissal from the game.”
