Two members of the Haverhill Conservation Commission recently completed extensive training on protecting the state’s resources and were presented with citations Tuesday night.

Dr. Tom Wylie and Harmony Wilson were recognized for their outstanding work and dedication to the Conservation Commission by Mayor James J. Fiorentini and the City Council. Fiorentini noted Wylie and Wilson are the only two people in the city to complete the course and they did so on their own time.

“We couldn’t exist without our great volunteer boards that we have in the city. They spend an incredible number of hours helping us to run the city.”

Wylie and Wilson enrolled in the “Fundamentals for Conservation Commissioners” certificate program offered by the Massachusetts Association of Conservation Commissions. There were five required courses, ranging from the state Wetlands Protections Act to Writing Effective Orders of Conditions. Three required electives courses included such topics as Protecting Wildlife Habitat, Open Space Planning and Protection Techniques and Effective Erosion and Sediment Control.

Conservation Commission Vice Chairman and Community Liaison Ralph Basiliere told WHAV, “They are very fine commissioners who jealously guard the people’s resources, and the entire Commission is very proud of them and pleased to work with them.”
