Today’s Obituaries—Dec. 9: Callahan, MacEachern

Stephen C. Callahan, 71, of York Beach, Maine, died Thursday morning, Dec. 5, at High Pointe Hospice House, Haverhill. Educated in the North Reading school system, Mr. Callahan graduated from North Reading High School , class of 1966. After graduating, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. during the Vietnam War where he served two tours and received a Purple Heart. He attended the University of Lowell prior to beginning a 19-year career at Converse from where he retired. After his retirement he co-owned C&M Sporting Goods, Haverhill, for more than 10 years. An avid golfer, he was a past president of the Haverhill Golf and Country Club and also enjoyed playing during the winter months near his home at The Villages, Fla. Calling hours are Monday, Dec. 9, from 4-7 p.m. at H.L. Farmer and Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St., Haverhill. His funeral is Tuesday morning, beginning at 9 at the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in All Saints Church, Haverhill. Burial will be in the spring in Union Cemetery, Newton, N.H.

Joanne M. (Downey) MacEachern, 72, of Hampstead, N.H., and formerly of Haverhill, wife of Kenneth B. MacEachern of 52 years, died Dec. 4, at Massachusetts General Hospital after a battle with cancer, with her loving family by her side. Raised and educated in Haverhill, she was a graduate of St. James High School, class of 1965. After graduation, she attended Salem Nursing School in Salem, and was employed at Eastpointe Care Facility in Chelsea for 25 years. Calling hours are Wednesday, Dec. 11, from 4-8 p.m., at Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St., Haverhill. Funeral services begin Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at St. Anne Parish, 26 Emerson Ave., Hampstead, N.H., at 10:30 a.m. Burial follows in Willow Grove Cemetery, 10 Whittier St., Newton, N.H.
