Newsroom Internship Opportunities

The WHAV Edwin V. Johnson Newsroom.

WHAV has openings for newsroom interns. Interns immediately gain hands-on experience reporting, aggregating, writing and editing news stories and conclude with demonstrable skills in multimedia news environments.

Students will:

  • Work as general assignment reporters
  • Receive assignments, write and file for air and web
  • Record and edit sound and shoot photographs
  • Provide research assistance and transcribe audio
  • Learn how to adapt on-air copy for online and vice versa
  • Time newscasts
  • Hone news judgment
  • Learn AP Style
  • Work in a deadline-driven environment and learn to operate under pressure

In addition, students may cover live events/conduct remotes, record actualities in the field, produce talk shows, voice community calendar announcements and more.

Required Qualifications

  • Currently attending an accredited college and receiving course credit
  • Studying journalism, broadcasting and/or communications
  • Reliable transportation
  • Provide written confirmation you are receiving course credit and how many hours your institution requires for the semester (Internships are unpaid.)
