Santa Claus will be out and about this weekend throughout the Merrimack Valley—likely checking lists of who’s been naughty or nice.

St. Nick participates in Methuen’s Santa Parade Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m. The route begins on Pelham Street at the Park and Ride. It continues left onto Lowell Street, right onto Hampshire Street, cross over Broadway to Charles Street, then Pleasant Street, right onto Pleasant View and ending at the Nicholson Stadium.

Pelham Street from Barker to Heavenly Donuts will be closed by 12:15 p.m.

Santa returns to Methuen for the annual Christmas tree lighting Saturday, Dec. 7, at 4 p.m., at the Loop Shopping Center. Pony Rides begin at 2 p.m. and main festivities start at 4 p.m., including photographs with Santa, Storybook Walk, gingerbread cookie decorating and sleigh rides. Santa will be on hand at 7 p.m. for the official tree lighting. There will also be a toy drive at the Loop that day. Residents are asked to bring an unwrapped toy for donation.

Santa will be present, in spirit at least, while Groveland Police are holding a toy drive, from now thru Dec. 15, to benefit the children of Groveland and Haverhill. In conjunction with Saint Patrick’s Church, new, unopened and unwrapped toys, for children of all ages, will be accepted at the Groveland Police Station, 181 Main St., where boxes are set up to benefit Toys for Tots, a foundation started by the U.S. Marine Corp to collect toys for children in need for the holidays.
