Public Meetings: New 62-Unit Water Street Senior Housing Before Appeals Board

The public has opportunities to shape policy this week as various Haverhill boards meet. In the interest of transparency in government, WHAV provides this list of upcoming meetings every week.

Bethany Community Services, operator of several senior housing complexes in downtown Haverhill is seeking to renovate an existing 150-unit apartment building and construct a new 62-unit building at 100 Water St.

Its comprehensive permit is before the Haverhill Appeals Board Wednesday, at 7 p.m., room 202, Haverhill City Hall. The presentation will be delivered by attorney John Smolak of North Andover.

The units will be offered as rentals to people age 62 and above.

Monday, Nov. 18

Hillview Montessori Charter Public School will have its regular Finance Committee meeting at 3 p.m., at the school, 75 Foundation Ave. The agenda includes an update on monthly financials.

The Board of Registrars of Voters will review the most recent municipal election, including a vote on provisional ballots at 3:45 p.m., in the City Clerks ‘office, room 118, of City Hall, 4 Summer St.

Haverhill Special Education Parent Advisory Board meets at 6 p.m., at the Haverhill High School Library, 137 Monument St., Haverhill. The meeting features “Basic Rights Training,” presented by the Federation for Children with Special needs.

Tuesday, Nov. 19

Board of Assessors meets from 9-10 a.m., in the Assessor’s office, room 115, Haverhill City Hall.

Haverhill City Council devotes most of its time to setting property tax rates for residential and commercial property at 7 p.m., in the Theodore A. Pelosi Jr. City Council Chambers, room 202, Haverhill City Hall. (See separate story.)

Wednesday, Nov. 20

Pentucket Lake Elementary School Site Council meeting takes place at 8 a.m., in the school’s conference room, 252 Concord St. Discussion centers on the school’s improvement plan.

Haverhill’s Vietnam Veterans Memorial Ad Hoc Committee discusses a hardscape contract and fundraising among other items at 6 p.m., in the City Council office, room 204, Haverhill City Hall.

Hillview Montessori Charter Public School Board of Trustees meets at 6:30 p.m., for its regular monthly meeting at 75 Foundation Ave. Its Accountability Committee meets two hours earlier at 4:30 p.m.

Haverhill Cultural Council conducts is question and answer meeting with potential Cultural Council grant awards, at 6:30 p.m., at Haverhill Citizens Center, 10 Welcome St.

Thursday, Nov. 21

Trustees of Haverhill Public Library meet at 8:30 a.m., at the library, 99 Main St. Items on the agenda include parking lot accessibility.

The Merrimack Valley Planning Commission meets at 7 p.m., at the Commission’s offices, 160 Main St. Among items on the agenda is a presentation by Tony Komornick and Betsy Goodrich on “sidewalk inventory.”
