The state highway department says one lane of I-495 on both the north and southbound lanes will again close overnights to accommodate construction of new bridges over the Merrimack River between exits 48 and 49.

Contractors with Salisbury-based SPS New England began demolishing the old northbound bridge after the first three lanes of a new bridge opened earlier this fall. This week’s closures occur each night from 7 p.m.-5 a.m. the following morning on I-495 southbound and from 8 p.m.-5 a.m. on I-495 northbound. The lane closures are necessary to allow the contractor access into the median for roadway construction.

A single right lane on I-495 north is also expected during daytime hours from Tuesday, Nov. 19, through Thursday, Nov. 21, from 6 a.m.-2 p.m.
